WHAT IS THE PROCESS?

As a Licensed Florida Auto Dealer, Custom Carts handles the street legal process from start to finish when you purchase a golf cart from us. We complete the necessary paperwork for you and provide a VIN, title & tag/registration at the end of your purchase. We are the ONLY golf cart dealer in Manatee & Sarasota County that can handle the title & registration process for you when you purchase a golf cart. This applies to ANY golf cart you purchase from us, whether it’s new, used, utility or a rebuilt golf cart. This means that you don’t have to have your golf cart inspected or complete any paperwork yourself! We can also convert any golf cart to a street legal golf by adding the necessary accessories!

WHAT IS A STREET LEGAL GOLF CART/LSV?

In Florida, a low speed vehicle (LSV) is a vehicle with a top speed greater than 20 MPH, but not greater than 25 MPH. LSVs must be registered, titled and insured with personal injury protection (PIP) and property damage liability (PDL) insurance. Any person operating an LSV must have a valid driver license. LSVs may only be operated on streets where the posted speed limit is 35 MPH or less.

WHAT IS REQUIRED TO MAKE A GOLF CART STREET LEGAL?

LSVs must be equipped with the following:

  • Head, tail and brake lights
  • Front and rear turn signals
  • AS4 Windshield
  • Windshield wiper
  • Seat belts for each seat
  • Exterior mirror mounted on driver’s side AND either exterior mirror mounted on the passenger side OR interior mirror
  • Parking brake
  • Red reflex reflectors, one on each rear side and one on rear
  • Electric horn
  • Slow Moving Vehicle triangle
  • Tag light
  • Top speed greater than 20 mph, less than 25 mph
  • Visible label that reads “This vehicle must not be operated on the public roads at a speed more than 25 miles per hour.”
  • VIN

WHERE CAN I DRIVE MY STREET LEGAL GOLF CART?

Low Speed Vehicles may be operated only on streets where the posted speed limit is 35MPH or less. Also check with your county or municipality as they may have additional rules regarding LSVs. The sales reps at Custom Carts can easily help you with this information as they are all long-time Floridians with expertise in this area.

DO YOU SELL “STREET READY” GOLF CARTS?

Yes! We are a dealer for Evolution electric vehicles. Most of these golf carts come “street ready” and can be purchased with a street legal package. We can make any golf cart you purchase into a street legal golf cart easily!

OUR PROCESS

If you are buying a golf cart, at the time of purchase tell the sales representative that you would like your golf cart to be street legal. The sales representative will give you all necessary information and paperwork to be completed at the time of purchase. As a dealer, we will handle the rest!

WHAT DOCUMENTS DO I NEED TO COMPLETE?

Custom Carts handles the paperwork and process on your behalf as the Dealer. You simply sign the required documents at the time of purchase and provide insurance. We then submit these documents for you to get the title and registration for the vehicle. 

In the State of Florida, a LSV may be driven on roads with a speed limit of 35 mph or less. However, some communities and cities have other laws. We recommend you confirm with your community and city the laws prior to completing the LSV process.
